PS3 Gets Ready To Rumble

September 20th, 2007 | Category: News

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. today announced that it would release DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless Controller, a new controller for PLAYSTATION 3 incorporating a rumble feature, in Japan in November as a separately sold accessory. It inherits the basic design and functionality of the popular PlayStation controller, while keeping the high-precision, high response motion sensitive six-axis sensing system. Introduction to North American and European markets is expected in spring 2008.

The added rumble feature, combined with the highly realistic motion sensitive six-axis sensing system, takes gamers deeper into the world of interactivity, delivering a more intuitive, realistic and immersive game play experience. The new controller will also benefit PS3 content creators, by giving them the ability to further expand their creative imagination. PS3 titles that are already in the market may become compatible with the rumble feature through software update.

With DUALSHOCK 3 and the attractive lineup of PS3 titles incorporating the rumble feature, SCEI will introduce more new ways of enjoyment that can only be found on PS3, and will further redefine the world of entertainment.

PES Coming Oct 28th

September 14th, 2007 | Category: Videos, News

Konami today confirmed that October 26th is the release date for its eagerly awaited PES 2008 title. The 26th will see the launch of the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC-DVD, PlayStation 2, and mobile versions of the game, with the PSP and Nintendo DS skus to follow in November.

Already regarded as one of the most anticipated titles of the year, PES 2008 is a landmark in football. Built around a proprietary adaptive AI system entitled Teamvision, the game monitors the movement and passing of the player, and learns to counter them. By constantly analysing matches against the player, Teamvision picks up on particular patterns to each user’s play, and will adapt its strategies accordingly. This results in more open, fluid matches, the perfectly suit the realism the Pro Evolution Soccer series is renowned for.

PES 2008 also marks the series’ first release for Playstation 3. Alongside the Xbox 360 and PC-DVD versions, the next generation PES 2008 boasts a remarkable level of detail, with stunning physical recreations of players married to bespoke animations that mirror their idiosyncracies, individual running styles and playing styles. Players also boast facial animation, while the added definition offered by the new formats is shown in the rippling of player kits during the course of a match.

All versions of PES 2008 will also benefit from the series’ intuitive and realistic control system. As with previous releases, the ball is treated as a separate entity, with the timing of shots entirely down to the player. The movement of the ball, the proximity of the player and their varying abilities are just three factors that are considered when a shot is made, while the new AI ensures that defenders work to close down space and block efforts on goal. Similarly, distribution of passes works along the same lines, with players using the space available to them to switch the ball. Close control has also been enhanced with more control when dribbling the ball, and a number of subtle moves added to bypass defenders and move the ball into space.

Working in conjunction with the Teamvision system, every aspect of PES 2008’s on-field play has been reworked and fine-tuned to create the balanced and strategic play of a high-level match. Set-pieces have been improved, with users now capable of nominating taller players to come up for free kicks or corners, while full control is given over the number of players and the position of the defensive wall. A wider range of set piece options are also available to make use of specific talents within the team, and an extensive list of options is also present, from hugely detailed ‘Edit’ modes through to online play.

Such is the clamour for PES 2008, that Konami is anticipating its biggest sales in the series, with several million copies being shipped to European territories to meet demand. “We are extremely confident that PES 2008 will be welcomed as the greatest football game of all time,” commented Kunio Neo, President for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “Demand is massive for what is easily the best Pro Evolution Soccer title to date, and we anticipate record sales as we bring the series to Playstation 3 for the first time, and unleash stunning versions for all leading formats.”

Sega Rally Gets Four New Cars

September 10th, 2007 | Category: News

SEGA today confirmed that SEGA Rally will include, among others, the Mitsubishi Concept-X, the recently revealed McRae Enduro, the RUF Rt 12 and a uniquely customised HUMMER H3. SEGA Rally will be released across Europe on the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC on September 28th 2007.

Mitsubishi Concept-X
With a nose end inspired by a jet fighter this is the concept vehicle for the next-generation of the Lancer Evolution Series, this fantastic car makes its video game debut in SEGA Rally. The production version of the Concept-X will have a 2.0 litre turbo-charged engine, a twin-clutch transmission, a further-developed all-wheel-drive system and a lightweight all-aluminium bodywork. The words Lancer Evolution have become synonymous with the sport of rallying since the car first launched in 1992 and the Concept-X has paved the way for the release of the forthcoming Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X in early 2008.

McRae Enduro
The brainchild of rally champion Alister McRae, the McRae Enduro is a new rally car concept that combines outstanding driving dynamics and modern turbo-diesel power with the extra traction that comes with a sophisticated suspension set-up and four-wheel-drive. The rugged McRae Enduro has been designed to compete in the most extreme off-road events including the FIA Cross-Country rallies, Baja-type events and the gruelling Dakar Rally. Having first met with the SEGA Racing Studio early in development of SEGA Rally the relationship was made stronger when SEGA Racing Studio’s Lead Car Artist, Keith Burden, became involved in the design process of the McRae Enduro, offering his skills and advice on the look and shape of the McRae Enduro. The McRae Enduro also makes its video game debut in SEGA Rally.

RUF Rt 12
RUF Automobile GmbH is the producer of high-performance vehicles, specialising in the manufacturing and enhancement of existing sports cars to RUF performance specifications. The RUF Rt 12, available to purchase with either a four or rear-wheel drive train has advanced aerodynamics and handling characteristics. It is one of the fastest and most desirable SEGA Rally cars boasting a top speed of over 200mph.

HUMMER H3 SUV (Customised)*
You wont find this beast of a car in any other game because it’s been modified, with approval by GM, by Lead Car Artist at the SEGA Racing Studio, Keith Burden. HUMMER is one of the very few manufacturers to allow such extensive customisation for a game and Keith has pulled out the stops to produce a real monster for SEGA Rally. Beginning as a standard HUMMER H3 SUV, Keith removed the rear doors and dropped the ride height, brought the wheel arch up a touch and tweaked it further to allow more space for wheel clearance. Keith then added Rally-Raid influenced wheels and tyres. The H3 is currently the most popular HUMMER model, with its compact design making it especially desirable within the American market.

Leipzig GC Winners Announced

August 27th, 2007 | Category: News

As the Leipzig Games Convention has now finished, it is time to reveal who the winners of best games of the show were, this is the fifth time the distinction for best of GC has been awarded. The awards were made to nine products at a press conference. A total of 85 hardware and software titles in ten categories were submitted by exhibitors at the GC - Games Convention.

As we are a Sony site we will concentrate on the winners of the Playstation branded catergories, so here they are.

The awards were made for the following:

In the PSP category: God of War: Chains of Olympus (Sony Computer Entertainment GmbH)Jury: “’God of War’ elevates the action genre to an art form, including on the PlayStation Portable: where other titles descend into brutish slaughter, God of War lends the battlefield a sombre beauty.”

In the PS2 category: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH)

Jury: “Once again, PES 2008 sets new standards as far as game play is concerned: the long-distance shots crackle, the one-on-ones are even more intensive and the opponents adapt to the style of play.”

In the PS3 category: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH)

Jury: “Football is coming home: the best current football game celebrates its PS3 premiere with diving, wall building and complete online support - including leagues and rankings.”

PES_2008_070605205411_sm.jpg

With so many great games on show such as Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk and Little Big Planet, perhaps it is a surprise that Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 won for both the PS2 and PS3, but then again, this is a European event and you know how much we love our football. Every year Pro Evolution Soccer seems to pip FIFA to the post although this year it is looking almost too close to call.

So what do you think? would you have chosen the above games as the winners? let us know as usual.

PS3 Gets A Good Deal From Woolies

August 24th, 2007 | Category: News

If you are one of the people waiting for an opportunity to join the PS3 revolution, then now is as good a time as any as Woolworths today announced a deal which cannot be missed.

The retail giant has now cut the cost of the PS3 to £375, not only that but this deal also includes, two games, two blu ray discs and two controllers, meaning that your PS3 is ready for two player gaming and HD movie watching out of the box.

“We expect it to be a massive weekend for games and console sales,” said Woolworths games buyer Alastair Burks.
“Competition is intense in the games market and all the big retailers are cutting prices and offering deals to try and stay ahead of the game. We believe our PlayStation 3 deal is the best in the market and expect it to be phenomenally popular.

“This summer’s indifferent weather has meant shoppers turning to indoor pursuits instead of going to the beach or a barbecue. As a result games sales at Woolworths have hit record levels for this time of year.”

With the incredible line up of games about to hit the stores such as Heavenly Sword, Warhawk and Singstar to name but a few, this is a deal which should be hard for many to resist.

So will you be making the plunge? let us know what your thinking.
